After Ḥajj
Bismillāh al-Raḥmān al-Raḥīm
Respected Ḥujjāj-e-Kirām! Alḥamdulillāh, we have completed our manāsik of Ḥajj. May Allah accept from us all, and grant us Ḥajj-e-Mabrūr and Maqbūl, and may He be pleased with us.
The question now arises: ‘What now after Ḥajj?’
Listed below are select pieces of advice to help maintain the spiritual benefits of Ḥajj and integrate the experience into our daily lives:
1) Reflect on the Experience.
Take time to reflect on your Ḥajj journey, the lessons you have learned, and the emotions you felt. Preserve both the memories and insights. Never say a bad word about Ḥaramayn Sharīfayn; this could put others off and you would incur sins. Instead, speak about the positive elements, for a person that guides others to goodness receives the same reward.
2) Continue Worship.
Maintain the high level of worship you practiced during Ḥajj. This includes regular ṣalāh, reciting the Qur’ān, sending durūd sharīf, constant dhikrullāh, and engaging in additional acts of worship like fasting, ṣadaqah.
3) Implement Positive Changes.
Ḥajj is a transformative experience. Implement any positive character and lifestyle changes that occurred during your pilgrimage and make them habitual. This may include being more patient, kind, and mindful in your daily interactions, spending longer in duʿā, keeping the sunnah beard, or wearing proper hijab, etc.
4) Stay Connected to the Community.
Become more engaged with your local Muslim community. Share your Ḥajj experiences, inspire others, and participate in community events and activities.
5) Seek Knowledge.
Continue seeking Islamic knowledge; attend classes, read books, and listen to lectures to deepen your understanding of the faith. Stay close to your local mashāikh and benefit from them. Visit our website, “tafseer-raheemi.com”, for regular talks.
6) Be Grateful.
Constantly express gratitude for having had the opportunity to complete Ḥajj. This can be done through praising Allah, thanking Him, seeking forgiveness for our shortcomings while His blessings continue to shower upon us daily, carrying out acts of charity, and helping those in need.
7) Maintain Humility.
Ḥajj is a humbling experience. Carry that humility into your daily life, treating others with respect and avoiding arrogance. Never boast about your Ḥajj or expect the title of “Ḥajjī”. If someone refers to you as such, then take that as a blessing from Allah.
8) Healthy Lifestyle.
Take care of your physical health. The rigors of Ḥajj can be physically demanding, so ensure that you follow up on any health issues and maintain a healthy lifestyle. A strong believer can perform more worship than a weak one.
9) Give Back.
You might have been helped during Ḥajj, or found yourself helping others. Maintain this spirit. Find ways to give back to your local community. This could be through volunteering, mentoring others, or supporting charitable causes.
10) Prepare for the Future.
If possible, plan for future pilgrimages, such as ʿUmrah. Staying spiritually engaged and looking forward to future opportunities for worship can help maintain the momentum gained from Ḥajj.
Integrating these practices into your life will help ensure that you continue to benefit from the spiritual uplift and renewal that Ḥajj provides.
May Allah bless us all with istiqāmat after Ḥajj. May He accept our Ḥajj and call us back again and again. Āmīn!
