Du’ā of Rajab
الهم بارك لنا في رجب و شعبان و بلغنا رمضان
“O Allah give us Barakah in Rajab & Sha’bān and let us reach Ramadhān.’
Hafidh ibn Rajab al-Hanbali Rahmatullahi Alayhi wrote, ‘Abu Ismail al-Ansari said that this is the only Hadith which is correct with regards to the virtue of the month of Rajab. But the chain of it’s narration is weak.’
Nevertheless, it is a proof that it is desirable (mustahabb) to supplicate for remaining alive until blessed times, so that one can get the opportunity to do some virtuous deeds. A believer’s life only increases in the doing of good deeds.
The best of the believers is the one whose life is long and deeds are righteous.
أفضل الناس من طال عمره و حسن عمله
The Salaf preferred their deaths to come after having carried out good deeds, such as after the fasting of Ramadhan or after returning from Hajj. It was said that whosoever died in such a state would be forgiven.
A pious Alim once fell ill before Rajab. He said, ‘I made dua to Allah to delay my death until the month of Rajab begins, for I have heard that Allah emancipates many souls from Jahannam in this month.’ Thus the Alim’s prayer was accepted and he died in the month of Rajab.
Rajab is known as the key to the months of goodness and Barakah. Abu Bakr Alwarrāq al Balkhi said, ‘Rajab is the month of sowing seeds, Sha’bān is the month of irrigation, and Ramadhān is the month of harvest.’
He also said, ‘Rajab is like the cool breeze, Sha’bān like the clouds, and Ramadhān like the rain.’
Some ulema give the analogy that the year is like a tree. The month of Rajab is when the leaves appear, Sha’bān is when the branches are full and green, and Ramadhān is when the fruits ripen and those fasting pick the fruits.
We should all seize the opportunities provided by this blessed month, repent to Allah wholeheartedly, and thereafter reap the rewards in the following two months.
May Allah forgive us, have mercy upon us, keep us steadfast upon sirāt-e-mustaqīm, and may Allah be pleased with us all. Amīn.
