Question: You said in one question that sunnah guideline having equal cut. In other question you said it is important. So is it sunnah, or fardh to have equal cut. Is it allowed to have haircut where sides of the head is trimmed a bit, and on top it is a little longer?

Answer: Looking at the hadith of abu dawood of qaza’ it could be classed as wajib to have an equal cut. A little bit of straightening upon the ears or on the neck, as to make ones appearance better and not look scruffy could be permitted. However, complete short back and sides or ‘Wedge’ cut is not permitted. Also punk styles should be avoided. Similarly making a Nike sign on the head or eyebrows should be avoided.
