Q794: Using a golden tooth

Question

Is getting gold/silver teeth permissible in all cases such as

1. For adornment purposes
2. Replacing a missing tooth
3. For replacing a chipped tooth
4. Replace a decayed tooth
5. Replace a discoloured tooth
6. To replace a damaged tooth

Answer

It is permissible to use silver and gold teeth for dental purposes. However, it will not be for beautification purposes.

وذكر الحاكم في «المنتقى» : لو تحرك ثنية رجل وخاف سقوطها فشدها بذهب أو فضة، لم يكن به بأس عند أبي حنيفة وأبي يوسف، وروى الحسن عن أبي حنيفة أنه فرق بين السن والأنف، فقال في السن: لا بأس بأن يشدها بالذهب، وفي الأنف كره ذلك، قال:؛ لأن الأنف شيء ظاهر، فكان اتخاذ ذلك راجعاً إلى الزينة، فكان كاستعمال الحرير، واتخاذ الخاتم من الذهب، وأما السن فشيء باطن، فلم يكن اتخاذ ذلك راجعاً إلى الزينة، فصار كمسمار الذهب في فص الخاتم.
