How should a Muslim behave

(Below is an abstract from the khutbah which was given last jumuah)

وهو يوم يظهر فيه الزناء والفحش والفسق والفجور A day in which adultery, fornication, sinfulness and immorality become apparent
وقد أخبرنا نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم أن الزناء ليست من الفرج فقط
Our Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us that Adultery is not only intercourse.
فقال صل الله عليه وسلم: ﺇﻥ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻛﺘﺐ ﻋﻠﻰ اﺑﻦ ﺁﺩﻡ ﺣﻈﻪ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺰﻧﺎ، ﺃﺩﺭﻙ ﺫﻟﻚ ﻻ ﻣﺤﺎﻟﺔ، ﻓﺰﻧﺎ اﻟﻌﻴﻨﻴﻦ اﻟﻨﻈﺮ، ﻭﺯﻧﺎ اﻟﻠﺴﺎﻥ اﻟﻨﻄﻖ، ﻭاﻟﻨﻔﺲ ﺗﻤﻨﻰ ﻭﺗﺸﺘﻬﻲ، ﻭاﻟﻔﺮﺝ ﻳﺼﺪﻕ ﺫﻟﻚ ﺃﻭ ﻳﻜﺬﺑﻪ. (رواه مسلم)
وقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ﻛﺘﺐ ﻋﻠﻰ اﺑﻦ ﺁﺩﻡ ﻧﺼﻴﺒﻪ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺰﻧﺎ، ﻣﺪﺭﻙ ﺫﻟﻚ ﻻ ﻣﺤﺎﻟﺔ، ﻓﺎﻟﻌﻴﻨﺎﻥ ﺯﻧﺎﻫﻤﺎ اﻟﻨﻈﺮ، ﻭاﻷﺫﻧﺎﻥ ﺯﻧﺎﻫﻤﺎ اﻻﺳﺘﻤﺎﻉ، ﻭاﻟﻠﺴﺎﻥ ﺯﻧﺎﻩ اﻟﻜﻼﻡ، ﻭاﻟﻴﺪ ﺯﻧﺎﻫﺎ اﻟﺒﻄﺶ، ﻭاﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﺯﻧﺎﻫﺎ اﻟﺨﻄﺎ، ﻭاﻟﻘﻠﺐ ﻳﻬﻮﻯ ﻭﻳﺘﻤﻨﻰ، ﻭﻳﺼﺪﻕ ﺫﻟﻚ اﻟﻔﺮﺝ ﻭﻳﻜﺬﺑﻪ (رواه مسلم)
Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Verily Allah has noted down the amount of Zina sons of Adam was to commit, the adultery of the eyes is looking, the adultery of the tongue is talking and the soul wishes and desires, and a person’s private parts succumbs to that desire and sometimes they don’t.” In another narration it is mentioned, “the adultery of the ears is listening, the adultery of the hand is touching, and the adultery of the feet is walking (towards the act)”
وقد أخبرنا نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بسلب الإيمان عن الزاني.
Our Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) has informed us that a person is stripped of his imaan due to adultery.
فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم: ﻻ ﻳﺰني اﻟﺰاﻧﻲ ﺣﻴﻦ ﻳﺰﻧﻲ ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﺆﻣﻦ، ﻭﻻ ﻳﺴﺮﻕ اﻟﺴﺎﺭﻕ ﺣﻴﻦ ﻳﺴﺮﻕ ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﺆﻣﻦ، ﻭﻻ ﻳﺸﺮﺏ اﻟﺨﻤﺮ ﺣﻴﻦ ﻳﺸﺮﺑﻬﺎ ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﺆﻣﻦ. (رواه مسلم)
The Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) said: The adulterer does not commit adultery whilst he is a mu’min. The thief does not steal whilst he is a mu’min. And a person does not consume alcohol whilst he is a mu’min. (A true believer)
وقال صل الله عليه وسلم إذا زنى العبد ﻧﺰﻉ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻧﻮﺭ اﻹﻳﻤﺎﻥ ﻣﻦ ﻗﻠﺒﻪ.
The Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) also said: When a person commits adultery Allah extracts the light of imaan from his heart.
وذكر في الرويات أنه من أعظم الذنوب.
In another narration, it is mentioned that adultery is one of the most major sins.
وذكر في الرويات عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال: ﻗﻠﺖ: ﻳﺎ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ، ﺃﻱ اﻟﺬﻧﺐ ﺃﻋﻈﻢ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ:ﺃﻥ ﺗﺠﻌﻞ ﻟﻠﻪ ﻧﺪا ﻭﻫﻮ ﺧﻠﻘﻚ ﻗﻠﺖ: ﺛﻢ ﺃﻱ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺃﻥ ﺗﻘﺘﻞ ﻭﻟﺪﻙ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺟﻞ ﺃﻥ ﻳﻄﻌﻢ ﻣﻌﻚ ﻗﻠﺖ: ﺛﻢ ﺃﻱ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺃﻥ ﺗﺰاﻧﻲ ﺣﻠﻴﻠﺔ ﺟﺎﺭﻙ (رواه البخاري)
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood رضي الله عنه that he said: Ya Rasulallah, in the eyes of Allah, which is the gravest sin? He replied, “That you associate partners with Allah even though it is he who created you”. I asked: Then which sin? He replied, “That you murder your child for fear of having to feed him” I asked: Then which sin? He replied, “That you commit adultery with your neighbours wife”
وقال الفقيه ابو الليث السمرقندي رحمه الله في تنبيه الغافلين: إن الله تعالى حرم الزناء في التوراة والزبور والإنجيل والفرقان.
Faqeeh Abul Layth Samarqandi (R.A) says: Allah has prohibited fornication in all four scriptures, ‘The Tawrah, Zaboor, Injeel and Al-Furqaan’
قال اللہ تعالیٰ في القرآن المجيد: ولا تقربوا الزنى إنه كان فاحشة وساء سبيلا. (سورة بني اسرائيل آية 32) “
Do not even go close to fornication. It is indeed a shameful act, and an evil way to follow”.
وقال تعالى: وحرم ذالك على المؤمنين. (سورة النور آية 3) “
And that has been prohibited for the believers”.
وقال تعالى: ولا تقربوا الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن ولا تقتل النفس التي حرم الله إلا بالحق ذالكم وصَّكم به لعلكم تعقلون. (سورة الانعام آية 151)
“And do not go near shameful acts, whether they are open or secret; and do not kill a person whom Allah has given sanctity, except rightfully. This He has enjoined upon you, so that you may understand.
وإن من أشراط الساعة أن يفشو الزناء
And also from amongst the signs of Qiyaamah is that Zina will become rampant.

وقال صلى الله عليه وسلم : ﺇﻥ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺷﺮاﻁ اﻟﺴﺎﻋﺔ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺮﻓﻊ اﻟﻌﻠﻢ، ﻭﻳﻈﻬﺮ اﻟﺠﻬﻞ، ﻭﻳﺸﺮﺏ اﻟﺨﻤﺮ، ﻭﻳﻈﻬﺮ اﻟﺰﻧﺎ، ﻭﻳﻘﻞ اﻟﺮﺟﺎﻝ، ﻭﻳﻜﺜﺮ اﻟﻨﺴﺎء ﺣﺘﻰ ﻳﻜﻮﻥ ﻗﻴﻢ ﺧﻤﺴﻴﻦ اﻣﺮﺃﺓ ﺭﺟﻞ ﻭاﺣﺪ (رواه أحمد)
The Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) also said: Verily, from the signs of Qiyaamah is that knowledge will be taken away, and ignorance will emerge, the drinking of alcohol will increase, adultery will become rampant, and the men will become less, and the women will increase until fifty women will be supported by (taken care of by) one man.

ولذالك أمرنا الله سبحانه وتعالى بغض البصر.

And it is for this reason that Allah instructed us to lower the gaze.

فقال تعالى: ﻗﻞ ﻟﻠﻤﺆﻣﻨﻴﻦ ﻳﻐﻀﻮا ﻣﻦ ﺃﺑﺼﺎﺭﻫﻢ ﻭﻳﺤﻔﻈﻮا ﻓﺮﻭﺟﻬﻢ ﺫﻟﻚ ﺃﺯﻛﻰ ﻟﻬﻢ إﻥ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺧﺒﻴﺮ ﺑﻤﺎ ﻳﺼﻨﻌﻮﻥ ﻭﻗﻞ ﻟﻠﻤﺆﻣﻨﺎﺕ ﻳﻐﻀﻀﻦ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺑﺼﺎﺭﻫﻦ ﻭﻳﺤﻔﻈﻦ ﻓﺮﻭﺟﻬﻦ ﻭﻻ ﻳﺒﺪﻳﻦ ﺯﻳﻨﺘﻬﻦ ﺇﻻ ﻣﺎ ﻇﻬﺮ ﻣﻨﻬﺎ ﻭﻟﻴﻀﺮﺑﻦ ﺑﺨﻤﺮﻫﻦ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺟﻴﻮﺑﻬﻦ [ﺳﻮﺭﺓ اﻟﻨﻮﺭ: ﺁﻳﺔ 30 31-]

Tell the believing men that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts; it is more purifying for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts, and must not expose their adornment, except that which appears thereof, and must wrap their bosoms with their shawls.

وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: ﺇﻥ اﻟﻨﻈﺮﺓ ﺳﻬﻢ ﻣﻦ ﺳﻬﺎﻡ ﺇﺑﻠﻴﺲ ﻣﺴﻤﻮﻡ، ﻣﻦ ﺗﺮﻛﻬﺎ ﻣﺨﺎﻓﺘﻲ ﺃﺑﺪﻟﺘﻪ ﺇﻳﻤﺎﻧﺎ ﻳﺠﺪ ﺣﻼﻭﺗﻪ ﻓﻲ ﻗﻠﺒﻪ (رواه الطبراني)

“Verily gazing is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblees, whoever leaves it for my sake, I will bless him with such a worship that he will feel its sweetness in his heart”.
ﻋﻦ اﺑﻦ ﻋﻤﺮ (رضي الله عنهما)، ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻗﺎﻝ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ: اﻟﻨﻈﺮﺓ اﻷﻭﻟﻰ ﺧﻄﺄ، ﻭاﻟﺜﺎﻧﻴﺔ ﻋﻤﺪ، ﻭاﻟﺜﺎﻟﺜﺔ ﺗﺪﻣﺮ، ﻧﻈﺮ اﻟﻤﺆﻣﻦ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻣﺤﺎﺳﻦ اﻟﻤﺮﺃﺓ ﺳﻬﻢ ﻣﻦ ﺳﻬﺎﻡ ﺇﺑﻠﻴﺲ ﻣﺴﻤﻮﻡ، ﻣﻦ ﺗﺮﻛﻬﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺧﺸﻴﺔ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﺭﺟﺎء ﻣﺎ ﻋﻨﺪﻩ ﺃﺛﺎﺑﻪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺑﺬﻟﻚ ﻋﺒﺎﺩﺓ ﺗﺒﻠﻐﻪ ﻟﺬﺗﻬا (حلية الأولياء وطبقات الأصفياء)

“The first gaze is a mistake, the second one is intentional and the third one is destructive. A believers staring at the beauties of a women is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of Iblees. Whoever gives it up for fear of Allah and due to hope of reward from Allah, Allah will recompense him with such worship that he will feel its sweetness”

وقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ﻟﻌﻦ اﻟﻠﻪ اﻟﻨﺎﻇﺮ ﻭاﻟﻤﻨﻈﻮﺭ ﺇﻟﻴﻪ (رواه البيهقي)

“Allah’s curse goes upon both, the one who is staring as well as the one is stared at”

قال الإمام محمد إبن إدريس الشافعي رحمه الله :

عفوا تعف نساؤكم في المحرم ….. وتجنبوا ما لا يليق بمسلم
Be chaste and the ladies in your household will stay chaste – refrain from that which does not suite a Muslim.
إن الزنا دين فإن أقرضته ….. كان الوفا من أهل بيتك فاعلم
Zina is loan – if you give it to someone, then remember it would be repaid to you from within your family.

يا هاتكا حرم الرجال وقاطعا ….. سبل المودة عشت غير مكرم

Oh you who serves the dignity of noble people, and devours the paths of love and harmony, may you live void of any respect

لو كنت حرا من سلالة ماجد ….. ما كنت هتاكا لحرمة مسلم

If you were a noble person from a respected family, you would not cause any disgrace to your fellow muslim

من يزن يزن به ولو بجداره ….. إن كنت يا هذا لبيبا فافهم

Remember! Who so ever fornicates will have to suffer the same, even if the act was to be repeated with his wall. If you are a man of understanding then take heed.

May Allah save the nation from this indecent act. Ameen
